While I’ve never had a knack for making clothes, an elegant dinner - or even a garden for that matter, I do have a great appreciation for the talent and ingredients that go into these creations of delight, which make them just so.
For most of my life, I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by creative people in the design and manufacturing world. As a kid after school, I worked in a family business putting together salesmen’s swatches of some of the world’s finest fabrics for high clergy vestments. At the time, I was more concerned with making sure the swatches were cut accurately than the materials’ beautiful fibers and weaves.
The experience must have rubbed off however, because ever since, I’ve been curious about the materials that go into things that make them unique – that give them a story.
My career stints in the fashion and ski industry, and then years at Fendler Communications helping some of the best brands in the outdoor industry with their public relations efforts, further fueled my appreciation of performance fabrics. This journey eventually led me to where I am now with Fendler PR – an ingredient marketing firm devoted to helping draw more attention and awareness of materials that make products better.
My Material Girl blog is a celebration all these great materials! It will share tips on how ingredient brands can better connect with designers and product developers, and also build connections with consumers. It will feature Q&A’s with creators of these amazing materials and the designers who make things out of them. Finally, it will capture some of the ingredients used in products we admire that range from performance apparel and outdoor gear to luxury bedding and products for the home.
Many thanks for reading! If you have any cool materials to share, I’d love to hear from you!
